Reading Club
Reading is a powerful tool for enhancing comprehension across various subjects. It allows students to engage with content at their own pace, reinforcing understanding and encouraging critical thinking. In school contexts with limited teachers, self-directed reading becomes even more crucial. It empowers students to explore topics independently, bridging gaps in instruction and fostering a deeper grasp of complex concepts. By cultivating a habit of reading, students can navigate their education more effectively and become lifelong learners.
What does a Reading Club entail?
Provision of a diversified reading pack for schools’ library that includes fiction, non-fiction, graphic novels, and poetry to cater to various interests.
Formation of a Reading Club where children borrow books from the library and then meet once a week to read together or share excerpts from their chosen books.
Each child is then encouraged to prepare a brief book report to share in subsequent meetings.
Book reports are prepared according to the template provided including sections like summary, favorite character, and what they learned.
Teachers or volunteers are then recruited to provide constructive feedback on their reports to encourage improvement and engagement.
