Mr. Sifat Uddin Shah – A Visionary Leader in Nature Conservation and Community Development in Gilgit-Baltistan

Mr. Sifat Uddin Shah, a passionate social worker and environmental activist, has dedicated over 25 years to pioneering initiatives focused on nature conservation and community development across Gilgit-Baltistan. As the founding president of the Ghulkin Nature Conservation, he has been instrumental in preserving the region’s unique ecosystems. His leadership was key in enforcing bans on illegal hunting, promoting sustainable grazing practices, and fostering community awareness on wildlife preservation and habitat protection.

Beyond environmental activism, Mr. Sifat has spearheaded several educational and public welfare projects. He served as the Chairman of Nasir Khusrow Model Academy, Diamond Jubilee School Ghulkin, and the FG Primary School Ghulkin, while also playing a pivotal role in establishing a public library and IT center to provide modern educational resources to the community.

His contributions extend to his work with international organizations like WWF and IUCN through the MACP and PMAC projects, where he played a critical role in eco-tourism and environmental protection. His involvement with the Gojal Conservation and Development Association, various Village Organizations, and local welfare associations has empowered local communities by creating sustainable livelihoods and laying the groundwork for a brighter, self-reliant future for generations to come.

Recently, Mr. Sifat has joined the founding team of abc foundation with a mission to address the critical lack of educational opportunities and combat poverty in the region. His unwavering commitment to improving the socio-economic conditions of underprivileged communities in Gilgit-Baltistan continues to guide his efforts as he works to empower marginalized communities through sustainable development and quality education.
